As you may see I have been a little behind in my posts. I really apologize for the inconvenience this nay have caused, because I know how my words inspire you all to do great things. I have been tied up with other, slightly more important activities. Such as work and school. Oh, who am I kidding those aren’t important. Both are based on the idea of money one so I can make money now, and the other so I can make more later. But, I digress.

I have also been in the proses of making the blog a little more appealing to the eye. That was a pain in itself. There are about a million different themes to choose from. Then, once I chose one it ended up mot being very friendly with HTML code. I finally was able to make everything jive though.

On top of all these other obligations the girlfriend and I recently bought a new PC. Which one would think would streamline things, and make life a lot easier. Maybe in perfect lala land, but not in my land. Especially with the luck I have with all things electronic. If it plugs in, has wires, and/or blinks I will have some issue one way or the other. No it’s mot that I am one of the idiots that goes to Best Buy and has to have the latest and greatest, just because it’s out. Then get it home and have no clue what it is, or how it works. I think of myself as an above average “geek”. Not to the point where I talk as I never hit puberty, or to the point where my only friends are techy2256 and Diablo2453. But in the same respect slightly more inteligent that the Best Buy “Geek Squad” yahoos. Also not to the point where I collect the Transformer figures…wait….oh yeah I did pass that point.

So anyway, I thought getting a new PC would be the best way to start with a clean slate, and not have to constantly troubleshoot all the time. I coukdn’t have been further from the truth. I have had a number of compatibility issues with Vista (go figure) not to mention the problems with integrating everything together. Once I get one thing working, it causes another to take a crap. It’s a vicious cycle. Good thing I half way enjoy this stuff, otherwise this thing would be out the window. More on this later.

In the down time I have compiled a list of possible topics I want to write about. So if you thought I was off the grid, I’m back. Oh and by the way, if you happened to come across this through a random Google search, add me to your RSS feed. It won’t hurt, you already have at least 10 on there you don’t care about.

Until I gather my thoughts, and stop yelling at this damn computer.

Stay Sic

Last night the country tuned in and watched the President give his version of how the country stands in many different areas. Now whether you watched it or not, you should be concerned with where our nation stands. It seems that most people these days take advantage of just what we have here in the United States. It almost seems as though politics themselves have split this country in two. There are those who really get involved and make it a point to educate themselves as to what is going on in the world, and moreover here in the United States. Then it seems there is an alarming amount of people that haven’t the slightest clue as to what is going on. Let me remind you that you are a part of this Union, just as much as President George W. Bush himself. It doesn’t however take a political activist to know what the state of the union is. We all know it’s a little topsy-turvy at the moment. Who is to blame? You tell me. Most will put the blame on Bush, and in some area’s I will agree with you. In other cases it’s the entire nation as a whole. I don’t mean to sound like one of those pro voting adds that will start running very soon, but we all have a say in how this country is run. That is exactly what makes this country the greatest country on the planet. You may think your opinion doesn’t matter, but why not put it out there? Even if you don’t draw focus from those in office, or have any influence on the outcome of who takes office, you can still put your word out there. I thinking about ten people read this blog, but I’m getting to ten people. Ten people that before now, never knew my opinion on these issues.

As for the state of the union itself. I didn’t title this article as a comedic response to the way “W” carries himself during speeches, but because it’s hard to say at this point. . So he’s a little doofy, but who cares. He’s obviously more qualified then anyone else, that’s why he was VOTED in TWICE. He started out by saying that despite all the economic woes and the conflicts over seas, the union remains strong. That to me seems like a pretty bold statement, but it’s all in how you interpret this. You may think it’s completely bogus, and nothing but verbal reassurance to the American people. My interpretation is that in response to what is happening, we as a nation push on and refuse to accept defeat. The fact still remains, we are the strongest nation and no matter what happens we will strive to remain that way. He spoke of yet another huge tax reform that involves permanent tax cuts, would add 500,000 jobs, and add 100 billion dollars to the consumer market. It may just be me, but this always seems to be the solution to economic instability. It usually works, but is very shot term. I don’t think anyone in middle working class would be opposed to this, and I’m not sure why anyone would be apposed to this. There are however other criteria, of which I’m not familiar with, that justify such an act. This is one of those things that sounds really good, but in the back of our minds we know won’t happen. At least in it’s entirety. On the other hand, I really liked the idea of getting rid of 151 wasteful programs. We never think about it, but there is a lot of money going to these programs and in return they aren’t really productively using that money. I’m a big fan of this, because it appears they are starting to think outside the box a little. Not taking the usual actions.

One of the topics discussed that I didn’t really follow was the amount of troops in the Middle East. I may have heard it wrong, or interpreted it wrong, but he said that 21,500 Marines will be sent to support the war on terror, and the liberation mission. Then later he said 20,000 troops are coming home. To me this is a little contradictory, but I’m not totally sure. The war is, as we all know, getting a little out of hand. Many say they should just bring them home, and it’s not our war. Many think we shouldn’t have been over there in the first place, and the terror danger is just a “cover up” for another agenda. Put all that aside, because what’s done is done. The United States is in way to deep to just leave. It’s to the point now where if they leave, the mission is a complete failure. There would be no liberation, and the region would go right back to where it was. Furthermore, they would be really pissed as the US. We don’t want Call of Duty 4 in our backyard do we? Where the US sits as of now on the issue of the war has become way to convoluted for me to understand, as well as the majority of the American people. We’re all entitle to our opinion, but opinions are always better when it’s really yours and not your parties. In closing about the war on terror, he put the spotlight on all those that are aiding in the process. He obviously gave his blessing to the men and women of our armed forces, but he also put the spotlight on those of more civilian trades. You may think airport security is getting ridiculous, but they are doing their job for your safety. You have to support what they do. If you’ve made it to the security gate your fine. The plane is not going anywhere. Take your shoes off and shut up.

In the past few years, it’s been the big topic that energy consumption is too high and the fate of the world lies in our hand. The global warming idea is bogus as far as I’m concerned, but that’s another day. He discussed ho we will be able to cut gasoline consumption by 20% in ten years. What he calls the “Twenty in Ten” plan. To do this the US would endorse renewable energy and alternate fuels. The US would also cut car and truck emissions to the point of eliminating the load of 26 million vehicles. I don’t see this happening, especially in the time frame given. He said it himself last year, that we as Americans are oil hungry. It seems that the more scared we get about the environment, the bigger and hungrier our vehicles get. Cutting emissions is a much larger hurdle than just focusing on vehicles. He said we could resort to non-emission nuclear energy. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t nuclear power one of the biggest emissions we have?

One last big subjects, and has been a topic of concern as of late, is immigration. First, I like the phrase “catch and release”. Like we are bass fishing. “Hey Joe!! I got’s me a fighter!” Basically what he wants is to keep the illegals here, but make them pay a fine. I think this is a great way to handle it. That way we keep all the laborers that will do the things we don’t, and we get to stipend their pay to cover their fines. It’s a win win. Punish them, but keep them. I love it.

After hearing the State of the Union, and hearing the Democratic responseI kind of got to thinking that I really have no clue where I fit anymore. I guess IndependentSince the shit hit the fan in the past few years, it’s hard to remain a “member” of one party. I think the whole party thing is dumb, but I guess it helps in organizing the different perspectives. I don’t think I’m the only one either. Many people I talk to are on the fence, and share the views of either side. This has always been the case, but now I think it’s much more prevalentPeople just don’t know anymore, and maybe that’s the reason people are starting to lose interest. That’s why I say the State of the Union is…..

I am by no means a doctor, and will never be anything remotely close to a medical practitioner. However, there are certain things in the medical world that I refuse to buy for a dollar. I’ve always had thoughts on a lot of medical prognosis, and thought I’d put it all in a nutshell. What really sparked this was the conversational debate the girlfriend and I had last night. She is in pre-med and taking nurses training, so it was fun to get her fired up. Beside that, I had valid points.

The basis of the discussion was major illnesses, such as diabetes and cancer. First, there are two types of diabetes. Type 1, which is very serious, and if not looked after, can cause death. Then there is type two, which is due to becoming over weight and putting extra pressure on your pancreas so it can’t produce enough insulin. Then cancer is… well it’s serious. Again, I’m not a physician so I may be off on a few of those descriptions. To add to the list there is also heart diseases. I myself have diabetes and heart disease on both sides of my family, and they say both of which are hereditary. So, as far as health goes I don’t have much going for me.

My theory is that whatever you get when you are older, you already had when you were born. Many will say, that isn’t even close to how it works. To me, if something is hereditary, then it came from your family tree and there isn’t anything you can do about it. If not, then hereditary illness is nothing more than a bunch of whacky coincidences. Now, I’m not saying that you can’t do certain things to help the process. I’m saying that no matter what, you already have whatever it illness you have. Having a healthy lifestyle, and eating right doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t going become ill. Look at Lance Armstrong. One of the most fit people you will ever know. I’m assuming he eats right, and he sure does ride his bike a lot. So why did he get cancer? Because he already had it to begin with. It just took a while to flare up.

I’m sure most of you reading this are thinking I’m completely off my rocker. Take for example the common cold. If you go outside when it 2 degrees without a coat, someone is sure to say, “You’re going to catch a cold.” When in reality you can’t get a cold from something like temperature change. If I jumped into a pool of icy water I would not get sick after I got out. I might get hypothermia, but not a cold. In my opinion the only way you can get a cold is if you already have the germs in your system. If that is the case, then the extreme temperature change weakens your immune system and enables the cold to attack. In the case of the other major diseases, it’s kind of the same thing. If you get heart disease, then you had it before you ate that greasy pizza. It was just the greasy pizza that made it evident that you have heart disease.

On the other side, there are all sorts of mental disorders that I also don’t buy for a dollar. Before you go freaking out, I know there are a lot of very serious mental disorders out there. I have to utmost sympathy for those individuals, and have nothing but respect for those that work with them. I’m talking about things like Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). To me it’s not a mental problem at all. It’s just that the person is unfocused and flighty. In today’s world it’s very easy to multi task, and have multiple things going on at one time. That is what causes people to have these attention issues. It’s not an illness, nor is it anything that should be treated with medication. It’s overly ridiculous in children. All these kids you hear of that are “diagnosed” with ADD or ADHD are not like that because they have a disorder. THEY’RE 5 YEARS OLD! That is what the problem is. If acting like a 5 year old is all the sudden a “disorder” then every child under the age of 13 has ADD. Today’s society doesn’t help matters either. With both parents working, and today’s hustle and bustle lifestyle it’s difficult for anyone to focus on one item at a time. People who jump from one thing to the next don’t have a disorder. They’re just indecisive.

Think about what it was like back in the day. Say the 50’s. Sure medicine wasn’t nearly what it is today, and there have been huge breakthroughs since. But those breakthroughs are because of cures and aids for the diseases I talked about first. That to me is what the medical field should focus on. Finding cures for diseases we already know we have. Not making disorders up because little Billy only plays blocks for 10 minutes then moves to playing with Matchbox cars, or because Jill acts out in class. The cure for ADD is not some horse tranquilizer in pill form to calm your kid down. Its something called discipline. Kids today get away with everything, and get everthing they want when they want it. Back in the day you could actually give your kid a motivational smack on the ass, and social services didn’t come running to your door. And you know what? From what I hear, that approach was very effective. Because of that kids were well mannered, and behaved (most of the time) Today kids know there probably isn’t a serious consequence, so they want to push the envelope.

I can’t stress enough how unqualified I am, but that’s my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. Take it as a grain of salt. I’m simply asking you to think outside the medical field box for a moment. For those that are in the medical field, you could probably right an entire thesis on how wrong I am. But keep in mind the comment box only allows so many characters.

Stay sic

Looking at buying a new computer can be tricky. The first step is to figure out just what exactly it is that you want to do with it. Once you have that established you have to ballpark the amount of doe you want to spend. Then once you compare the two you have to decide what hardware / software you now realise you don’t want, because it just shot the sub total through the roof. Once you have all that set, you have two choices. Buy a boxed ready PC, or a do it yourselfer. I’m not the biggest fan of going to the store or logging on to a website and picking from the vast amount of random model numbers. It’s amazing to me how many people still think they are getting something special because it has a streamlined case and a logo. It’s all the same pieces that come off the same line, except it’s shipped to different places. All the manufacturers do is put it together for you, and charge for their name. I know nothing I’ve just said is ground breaking, but thought that would make for a nice intro paragraph.

The girlfriend and I are in the market for a new PC. We have researched and researched, then researched the research. I am by no means a whiz at any of this computer jargon, but I learn as I go. Google is after all an amazing tool. Some of the things we want out of this new machine is to basically be able to run all of the home theater components from it, and use a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive to watch movie on the big TV. I also want to run AutoCAD, and a few other graphic heavy programs such as Photo-Shop. So in a nut shell we want a Home Theater PC that we can type papers with. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I thought it would be a simple plug and play operation, but man was I mistaken. Not only is it hard to figure out what we will need, it’s hard to figure out what it all means.

If I had a dollar for each computer based acronym I would be a millionaire…Well, I’d at least have a few extra bucks. You have the DVI, HDCP, DDR, and many others. Also, as I mentioned before the crazy amounts of random model numbers. It’s a good thing I already knew most of the TV related terms, like the 1080i, 1080p, HDMI and some of those or else I’d be completely lost. If this thing doesn’t pan out, at least I can say that I’ve learned a lot.

Basically I’ve boiled it down to this configuration. We will need at least a 2.66GHz processor, a super fantastic video/graphics card, a quantum mechanical sound card, a ginormous hard drive, DVI to HDMI cables, and a fine copy of Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. To put it in computer code that means, Intel® Core™2 Q6700 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.66Hz,1066FSB), Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium with Digital Cable Support, 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs , 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache, 256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT, Integrated Sound Blaster®Audigy™ HD Software Edition, Hauppauge HVR1250 Hybrid TV Tuner and Remote, INTERNAL SUPER MULTI BLUE BLU-RAY DISC™ REWRITER & HD DVD-ROM™ DRIVE and of course a keyboard and mouse. See what I mean? It’s nuts. By the way thank goodness for copy paste.

On my journey to find whatever it was I was looking for I found out some interesting things I didn’t know before. Some of you may have known for a long time, and others may already have this in their home. Vista has a thing called Media Center Extender capability. You can connect your PC to your home theater wirelessly. Of course this comes at the added cost of more hardware, but how bad ass is that! On top of all that, instead of buy an extender, which is basically a wireless card for your TV and receiver, you can use an XBOX as a wireless connector to your TV. Just another reason for me to get one. With this you can watch TV through your PC, and use your PC and/or XBOX as a DVR, and save all your shows to your PC. You can also view videos, listen to music, and whatever else you do with your computer on your TV.

It just seems that now a days the sky is the limit, and with the explosion of big screens, surround sound, high definition, and whatever else, it’s become very easy to integrate your entire house. Hell, I bet their is some sort of plug in so you can operate your toaster from your PC.

All this sounds like fun and games, but if your not careful you’ll end up with something you don’t need, or something that you can’t use. Be sure to take the time and research everything! It takes a while, but it’s better than “Geek Squad Brett” telling you what you need, when he hasn’t the slightest clue what he’s talking about. It’s also good to keep in mind that just because it’s the most expensive, or latest and greatest doesn’t mean it’s any better than last years model.

All I know is, our system better work. Guess I’ll find out just how much I’ve “learned”.

By special, I don’t mean the Saturday night kegger at Sponge Bobs. Although, those can be special in their own right. The events I speak of are the banquets, luncheon, and any other event where a bunch of people get together for some business related BS. Also, just a simple night on the town. A lot of you, I’m sure, have been to at least one of these events in your life time. You don’t want to go, but there is that little bit of obligation that compels you to go against your will. Not only do I dislike those types of functions, but I absolutely hate having to “dress up”.

Before I get too deep into this I want to let you know that I understand why we as human being feel it necessary to wear things that we, on a normal day, would not. I understand that wearing your one and only suit, that hasn’t fit since your cousin Jimbo’s wedding ten years ago, makes some sort of non-lasting impression on those around you. Depending on the caliber of the event some rush out and pick up a neat and prim new suit for ungodly amounts of money, while others tend to wear the exact same thing to all events. My question is, why is all of this necessary?

I myself do not own a single suit, and up to this point in time have been able to squeak by without one. I always use the excuse that I don’t have one, and can’t justify buying an expensive suit for one occasion. Now I know as well as anyone that another event just like it will come up, if not there’s always the same function next year. I just pull out the same excuse card every time. I always wear khakis, and a collard shirt of some sort. Typically it’s always the same one. I may have to change that, because it beyond just seeming like a coincidence.

The reason I don’t think it’s necessary is not solely because I myself despise dressing up. I just don’t see why we have to look so suffisticated for something that seams so meaningless. I’m not saying that you should wear you pajamas to your next business function, but why not be comfortable. What you have on does not define you as a person at all. Someone could be wearing the most top of the line suit, but be a complete jerk off. Which by the way, tends to be the case more times than not. Now, what if it was the other way around and someone is wearing…oh I don’t know some cargo pants and a sweatshirt, but they were very intelligent and well mannered? My point is that I know your appearance is the first thing to be judged, but why is that?

A lot of people have told me that first impressions are everything, but just who exactly am I trying to impress? For example, and strictly example, if I’m going out for a night on the town to see if I can’t find a lady, I don’t want to give her the wrong first impression. What is the point of wearing the nice shirt, or doing my hair up nice, or smelling Giorgio Armani just pissed on me? If I don’t normally do that, then I have already given a false description of myself. Now if by some odd chance I found a girl that could fight her way through the plume of cologne, she most likely would be the type to get very irritating very fast. All I’m saying, in this scenario, is be careful what you wish for. Now, of course I have the best girl on the planet so you’ll have to settle for second best. (How ridiculously cheesy was that?)

As for the rest of the scenarios that you may have to dress up for, I say why bother. Chances are you will never talk to or see that person ever again no matter what you have on. Hell, go naked next time. Talk about a first impression. You may find this as the most effective attention gathering tactic, but you may not like the results.

I know there are a lot of things that we dress up for, and I will continue to do so. I just wanted to put it out there, that I think it’s unnecessary for most. I will continue to not be the proud owner of a suit, and if in the future it is required I will just throw out the I don’t have one card. Events that require suits are always way to up tight as it is, so why should what you have on be just as up tight.

WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!!

Last night me and the girlfriend saw Cloverfield, and all I can say is…WOW!! The film really has no plot, except that a giant monster creature attacks New York. The entire film is shot as a first person perspective, with a home video camera. Kind of like Blair Witch Project. At first it gets a little annoying, but later you find that it makes the movie much better.

The cast is full of people that you’ve never heard of, but that’s also what makes it good. It gives you more of the feeling that this actually happened, and it was actually a self documented film. I could tell you the cast, but that means I would have to look it up and you wouldn’t know who they were anyway. There are six main characters, well seven if you count the monster. There is really next to no character build up, the only thing you know is that Rod has been promoted to a job in Japan. Marleena is a friend of a friend, Jason is Rods brother, Hud is Rods friend, Lily is Jason’s girlfriend, and Beth who is/was/is Rods girlfriend. I hope that makes sense, because what I just said is all you get in the movie. Oh, and the monster is just the monster.

The flick starts out with Rob at Beth’s place where they are having a nice time together. Again as if it was taken with a home video camera. Then it cuts to Jason and Lily getting groceries for Rods going away party. Then it goes to Rods going away party where Jason gives the camera to Hud so he can record testimonials from people wishing Jason goodbye. Again, I know it’s confusing, but that’s the way it starts. The party is fun and happy, then Rod has a run-in with Beth blah blah. Then BOOOOM!!

The monster starts to attack the city and nobody, including you know what the hell is going on. One of the first sequences is what I might call a “little” controversial. Remember this takes place in New York. They show buildings collapsing, and the head of the Statue of Liberty rolls down the street. The building thing is what got to me, and not so much the statue. We got it from the French anyway, and nobody likes the French. You quickly get over the reminiscence of 9/11, but it does send a chill down your spine.

The rest of the movie is all out in your face. There isn’t much lull time, and when there is it doesn’t last long. As I said above, using the technique of the first person video really makes it what it is. Had it been shot in “normal cinematic” fashion, it would have really sucked. The fact that you know just as much as Hud, the guy running the camera makes it really intense. You really get a new perspective as to what it would be like in a situation like that, such as the tragic events of 9/11. (Those that where not there, including myself, have NO IDEA)

The visual effects are fantastic. It has all the CGI as any other movie, but with a twist. It still holds the home camera look and feel. You see missiles flying and buildings smashing, but sometimes off focus, shaky, and the of course unintentional ground shots. There is a scene where they get stuck in the middle of the armed forces trying to take out the monster, and you really feel like the tank is driving by and firing.

The entire movie leaves a lot to question, but that’s what it intended to do. Even at the end you have no clue what the monster is, where is came from, or why is was raging all sorts of hate and discontent. Throughout, you know as much as the characters and you remain knowing as much as the characters.

Overall, this movie is VERY entertaining. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and some scenes leave you with nothing to say but, “what the hell just happened?” This may not be the best choice for a first date, or any date for that matter. (the girlfriend and I are sort of beyond dating) Anyway, it’s by no means a movie to be remembered, except the night after you see it. It’s hard to get some of the images out of your head. I would give this movie 3.5 stars out of5. I will say this, if you want to see this GO SEE IT IN THE THEATER!! It will not have the same effect on DVD, unless you have a full blown movie theater in your basement. If you do, can you get me a job?

Oh yeah, the monster. Well it’s big, it’s scary looking, it’s like no other monster I’ve seen, and it sheds little monsters that attack throughout the movie. There is one close up of it, and he looks bad ass. That’s all I can really say.

You will leave the theater open eyed, confused as all hell, and perhaps speechless.

My truck doesn’t get the best of gas mileage, so it really bothers me when I have to drive to school, which is a ways from the house. Last semester my girlfriend and I had schedules that really worked out well, and we were able to car pool. I much rather driving the Saturn vs. my gas monster. Think of it this way her Saturn is more of a sandwich and chips, and my truck is more like an all you can eat buffet.

Anyway, today our schedules worked out so we could take the Saturn together. Her class was at 8:00 and mine not until 9:30. I also wanted to get to campus a little early, because I still didn’t have my books. Which by the way cost a little over $200 for three books. But that’s an entire other story. So we had to get up at 6:00 to be able to get through traffic and be there by 8:00. I’m not what you would call a morning person by any means. If it was up to me, the day would be shifted and wouldn’t start until at least 10:00 and end around 1:00AM. But since I don’t have the power, I just deal with it.

So the clock goes off at 6:00AM, not so bright and early. It’s a good thing she’s there, because I don’t even hear the alarm. I used to live one block from the tornado siren, and never heard that either. Good thing the house was never really hit, or I would have been really pissed to wake up flying through the air. But since I don’t here it, and I’m a heavy sleeper as it is she has to shake me and yell in my face. She’s the type that finds it necessary to use the most annoying high pitched morning voice. “Hey it’s time to get up” Man I hate that. On top of all that she gets to sleep for another 20 minutes, cause she waits for me to shower. It doesn’t bother me at the moment of typing this, but in the morning everything tends to bother me.

It’s funny how it seems that people seem to have a totally different frame of mind in the morning. Things that are usually day to day all the sudden seem like it’s the end of the world. I’m talking about the dumb things, like the cap to the toothpaste falls on the floor, or you miss and pee a little on the seat. I’ve also noticed how delusional we can be in the morning. During the day 5 minutes is nothing, and flies by. However, in the morning, all the sudden five more minutes is like gold. It’s as if we want to go back to flying around on the back of the pink hippo, and no that wasn’t my dream last night.

So we get ready, only to find that it was snowing, and during rush hour. Getting to the interstate was half the battle. Then the interstate was at a stand still, so we opted to take the longer route, thinking it would be fast and less traffic. We were horribly mistaken. It took us an hour to get to campus, and those that may be reading this from bigger cities probably don’t think that’s a big deal. That trip usually takes us about 15 minutes.

Aside from the morning I just had, any early morning usually sucks in it’s own right. Some days I don’t have class, so I go to work instead, which has it’s own annoyance. It’s not necessaraly work that sucks, it’s the people that are there. Not everyone, because a lot of them are just like me and despise the morning sun. I’m talking about those that are entirely too chipper. “Eh! top of the morning!” “Happy humpday!“ ”Okee Dokee” Who says that type of crap? Especially in the morning. There are fine lines between way too uppity and the rest of us. Again, especially in the morning. Leave me alone until at least 11:00. And if you are like that all day, just leave me alone.

I’ve been a Transformers fan since I was a little tike, and like many others than grew up in the 80’s, was pumped for the live action movie. I will say that going into the movie I was a little sceptic about how it was going to turn out. Since Transformers started as a toy, and nothing else, there was no story connected to the figures. Then after the mass amount of popularity it became a cartoon and later a cartoon movie. None of which really containing human characters nor took place on earth. I was interested to see how they molded all that together, and how the giant alien robots ended up on earth. I was also curious as to how well they would portray all the characters I grew up knowing, such as Optimus Prime and Megatron.

The plot of the movie is a litte shallow, but when you are dealing with something as far fetched as robots that morph into vehicles how deep can you really make a plot. The basis of the story is what they call the “All Spark” which basically harnesses the power of the universe, and is what created the robot race and their planet Cybertron. The robots are split into two different sides, the good Autobots and the evil Decepticons. After losing the “All Spark” due to the raging war on their planet they set out to find it. Ironically enough, it just happened to end up on earth.

The character build up is great, but maybe a little too great. The entire first hour of the flick is all about introducing characters. The casting for Transformers was right on as far as I’m concerned. Shai LeBeouf was fantastic in his role as Sam Witwicky the main “human” character. They should have a new award just for his performance with Magan Fox. It would be called, kicking ass even with a crappy supporting actress. The only reason Megan Fox is there is because Micheal Bay directed it, and he always has to have smokin hot chicks with zero acting abbility, Also known as eye candy. Other than her, the entire cast was great.

Now the main main characters are of course the robots. Since we haven’t technologically evolved far enough to create intelligent robotic organisms that transform into earth vehicles, CGI is the next best thing. The visual effects in this movie are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. I would say 80% of the movie involves some sort of drastic visual effects, and they are mind blowing. From the robots themselves, to the explosions of the fight sequences the effects are next to perfect. Having watched the movie many times, there are a few parts where you can tell the guy doing it didn’t have his cofffee in the morning.

Overall, this movie is on top of my list of favorite movies for more reasons than one of course. If you are looking for an in depth dramatical experience this is not the one for you. However, if you are in the market for an in your face, all out, thriller extravaganza this is the best one out there. I’ve heard some say that it was over the top and too much, but I think that’s what makes it what it is. I mean come on, they’re 20′ tall robots from the far reaches of space. What do you want, Optimus Prime to sit down and have a deep one on one dialogue with Iron Hide?

I would definatley hands down give Tranformers a 5 out of 5. Based soley on the premace of the movie it hit right on and I couldn’t have asked for more. Some say it’s too long, where I say it’s not long enough. I can’t wait until the sequal makes it’s way to the theaters. Don’t just rent it, this is a buyer FO SHO!!

I don’t have much time at the moment, but thought I’d put something up. This is the first time I’ve done this blog thing. I never really understood it, but thought I’d jump on the bandwagon. I wanted to start a blog about a specific topic, but that was too hard pick what it was I wanted to write about. I was going to do sports, but that may have gotten cumbersome. I will say, a majority will probably be sports related.

First, a little about me. As if anyone gives two shits. My name is Lance and I am from Omaha, Nebraska. For those reading this that are unfamiliar with where that is, go back to third grade and look at a map of the United States. Close your eyes and point to the center of the map. There you have it. I am a part time student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and studying Construction Engineering Technology. This is my fifth year, and just became a senior after last semester. I work at an engineering firm here in Omaha, and am the senior drafter. Basically I draw pictures all day. It’s a great job, but I’ve been there for eight years in March, so I’m ready to move on to better things.

Like I said I’m a big sports fan, and will probably write a lot about that. I am, for obvious reasons, a huge fan of the UNO Mavericks. They had an awesome football season, and I’d like to congratulate them on that. Best football team in the state there. Screw the Huskers. Oh yeah, I’m not a fan of the Huskers but I won’t get into that right now. That’s an entire page in and of itself. Hockey is where my biggest interest is, as from a spectator aspect. I go to all the Mavericks home games at the Qwest Center. They haven’t had the greatest of seasons, but they are still doing alright. From both a spectator and playing perspective, baseball is where my heart is at. There is a lot of tradition around the game, and I’m always excited about the new baseball season. The College World Series is the best event of the year. And by the way that’s played right here in the Big O, or so it’s called. I have a lot of other interests, such as snowboarding and golf. So, I’m always occupied so matter what the season is.

That’s about all from me at this point. It’s funny, because writing this has given me tons of topics that I have opinions and will be writing on. With all the blogs out there, I hope a few find this and stick around.
